If you’ve ever felt like your body is stuck — like no matter what you try, your symptoms keep looping back around — you’re not imagining it.
Over the past 20 years I’ve seen literally thousands of women dealing with hormone imbalances who feel like they’re trapped in a frustrating cycle:
- They clean up their diet, take the right supplements, try to reduce stress… and things do get better — for a while.
- But then the symptoms creep back in. Fatigue. Irregular cycles. Mood swings. Sleep issues. Skin flares.
There’s a reason this happens. And once you understand it, you’ll finally have a way to move forward for good.
Your Body Remembers Patterns
Your body is designed to remember patterns — it’s how we survive.
If your system experienced a major hormonal disruption in the past (like prolonged stress, trauma, birth control, intense dieting, overtraining, pregnancy, or even a miscarriage), your body may have adapted to cope with those circumstances.
But here’s the catch: Even when life circumstances change, your body might not update the program right away.
So, it keeps running the old survival script — the one that made sense back then, but no longer fits your current reality. This outdated script affects how your nervous system, immune system, and endocrine system work together.
So instead of flowing with healthy cycles:
Your body is still stuck in fight-or-flight mode…
Or it’s stuck in burnout mode…
Or it’s looping in repair mode and never finishes…
Signs Your Body Is Stuck In An Old Hormonal Pattern
Here are a few common signs we see in our clinic:
Irregular, painful, or missing periods that started after pregnancy, a stressful life event, or a health crisis.
Unexplained fatigue, anxiety, or irritability no matter what you do to try and feel better.
Feeling “off” even though labs that look “normal”.
Little to no improvement even after cleaning up your diet, improving your self-care habits, and even taking supplements.
You’re told “just reduce stress,” but you already are — and it’s not enough
Sound familiar?
Well, over the past 20 years, I’ve worked with thousands of women facing hormonal issues — and I can tell you this is the most common problem I see: their bodies are stuck in an old hormonal pattern that is no longer needed.
The good news? It’s actually quite easy to fix. Once we guide the body out of old survival modes and into present-time healing, the shifts can happen within 1-2 weeks which is much faster than most people expect.
Simple Things You Can Start Doing TODAY To Reset Your Hormonal Patterns
You don’t have to force your body to change. In fact, forcing things often makes the situation worse.
Instead, the goal is to create a sense of safety so your body exits survival mode and feels safe devoting time and energy to restoring vs reacting.
Here’s a few simple things to try on your own:
1. Calm Your Nervous System Daily
Nervous system dysregulation is one of the most common root causes of hormonal imbalance.
While acupuncture — one of the therapies we use at our clinic — is probably one of the most powerful tools for restoring calm and balance to the nervous system, you don’t necessarily have to come to the office for treatment in order to shift things in a positive direction.
Instead, you can try this guided meditation from Axelrad Clinic Academy that teaches you a technique I’ve personally used for years with great success. Download it for free here.
2. Realign With Your Circadian Rhythm
Your nervous system — and by extension every other system in your body — is directly tied to the 24 hour cycle of day and night. Being out of sync with this natural rhythm for extended periods of time forces your neuroendocrine axis to shift into reactive mode and away from restorative mode.
You may even be getting 7-8 hours of daily sleep without much improvement. If that’s the case, look at your sleep schedule.
Are you going to bed at 11pm or later? This may not be early enough, as your circadian rhythm wants to downshift just after sunset. Pushing your body to stay alert and awake for several hours after that can deplete you to where your body cannot fall into a deep sleep like it needs to.
Try this instead: Choose a bedtime no later than 10pm, and stick to it for at least 3 consecutive nights. Make sure it will give you at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep time before you have to be awake.
If you wake up earlier than usual, don’t worry, it’s just your body adjusting. Be consistent and after 3-5 days you will start sleeping more soundly through the night and waking up with more energy.
This is a sign that your body is shifting back into healing mode and that healing will effortlessly extend to your hormones.
3. Keep Your Insulin Low & Steady
Insulin is one of your body’s master hormones — and when it’s overstimulated, it becomes a hidden source of inflammation.
Frequent spikes in insulin (from sugar, processed foods, or constant snacking) can lead to weight gain, fatigue, mood swings, and hormonal imbalances like PCOS and estrogen dominance.
Even worse, unstable insulin throws off your body’s ability to regulate other key hormones — creating a ripple effect that keeps you stuck.
The good news is it’s easy to bring insulin back into balance with a few simple shifts.
Here’s something you can try for 3-5 days to see how you feel:
- Start your day with a no-carb breakfast rich in protein and fat (like eggs and avocado or an egg/chicken burrito bowl).
- For lunch, avoid eating large amounts of rice, flour, and other starches. Focus on protein and veggies, and keep the bread, rice, and potatoes to a bare minimum.
- For dinner, eat a big salad with a non-dairy dressing. If you’re looking to lose weight, make it veggies only. If not, then feel free to add a small amount of salmon, chicken, or another protein.
After just 3–5 days you’ll likely notice better energy, fewer cravings, and a calmer, more balanced mood. That’s a sign your insulin — and your hormones — are coming back into harmony.
You’re Not Broken — You’re Rebalancing
Your body isn’t failing you. It’s just not sure if it is OK to exit the previous pattern yet. The key is giving it the signals that, yes, now is the time to shift back to healing mode — with the right support, safety, and rhythm to let that program take hold.

Hello Chris,
Each day I am starting to slowly feel like my old self. The anxiety, the OCD and emotions are slowly diminishing. I can’t express how thankful I am to you for helping me. I would have never learned so much about myself and what’s happening to me if it wasn’t for you wanting to help feel better. I was in a horrible place for so long and I didn’t know how to change it.
